The Fact you are reading this shows you are among the many who are concerned about the legal
ramifications, neglected or improperly maintained Office furniture can cause.
Below are some examples of what is increasingly happening
to companies across the nation.
Premises Worker for Lewisham Council secures over £12,000 compensation
Mr Craig Lewis, a premises worker for Lewisham Council, secured over £12,000 in damages following an accident at work which has left
him with long term back injuries.
……….On the day of the accident in September 2004, Mr Lewis, from Bromley, Kent, had set up a media room for a conference and was
waiting for someone to arrive so he could show them how to use the equipment. He sat in a colleagues chair and leant against the backrest
in the normal way. The spine of the backrest snapped causing him to suddenly fall backwards. The broken spine of the chair impacted with
his spine.
Mr Lewis Explains: “Following the accident, I was off work over 3 months; I couldn’t walk. At first I didn’t appreciate how serious the
injury was…………Following an MRI scan in October last year, I’ve been told that I have ‘Mechanical’ back – a condition which is likely
to be problematic in the long term…….From the start, my solicitors pressed for the right level of compensation, which included getting the
right medical evidence to support my claim.”
Mr Peter Lees, 24, Allerton, won £2,000:
"I had never claimed for anything before but, after badly cutting my fingers on defective equipment at work, I made a call. The advisor who
answered my call was very helpful in taking me through how the process would work”.
Customer Care Officer injured at work
“I’m a customer care officer working for Job Centre Plus, part of the Department of Work and Pensions. On 30th June 2005, having opened up
the office, I was heading to my desk when my foot became entangled in some loose cables that were trailing from a computer to the floor. As
a result, I tripped and fell sharply onto a corner of a desk. I ended up with fractured ribs and injuries to my neck, shoulders and arms.”
“I was able to provide them with photographic evidence and they subsequently helped me with medical evidence to prove that the injuries
were serious enough to warrant a claim for damages.”
“My employer had to admit liability, so it was simply a case of negotiating the right level of damages”
“I was surprised how easy it was to make a claim!”
